Reclaim the Sector is a Philadelphia-based consulting firm owned by Sam Chenkin. Sam’s mission is to radically reimagine the nonprofit sector to be more equitable.

Sam came to us for strategic communications consulting. She has a strong sense of purpose and knows the outcomes her work can bring about. But she needed expert insight on how to improve her communication online. She needed to clarify who she was really trying to reach, and to find the right balance in tone between personal and professional.

Working with a limited budget, we designed a collaborative process to achieve the results she needed within a short amount of time. We created a detailed discovery questionnaire, held one-on-one consultation sessions, and created targeted worksheets for her to complete.

Through this collaborative process we:

  • defined her top three target audiences,

  • identified where her practice sits in relation to her closest peers,

  • determined her particular communications style,

  • established her top messaging priorities, and

  • articulated her vision for the nonprofit sector.

With all this in hand, Sam was then able to craft new language and adjust the overall structure of her website. She was better able to communicate her point of view, distinguish herself from her peers, and reach her key audiences.

After she made initial changes to the site, she asked us for recommendations to make it more accessible to users with disabilities. We provided her with annotated screen shots and recommendations for updates, based on the key issues we uncovered. These recommendations spanned structure, design, copywriting, and known Squarespace-related issues with accessibility.
